Dance Therapy – Frequently Asked Questions

What is Dance Therapy Sydney?

Dance Therapy is a weekly beginner dance class held in Sydney every Thursday evening, upstairs at Universal Sydney in Darlinghurst. It was created by Tribe Wellness, a PACFA-registered counselling and psychotherapy practice, to offer LGBTQ+ adults and allies a structured way to move their body, regulate their nervous system, and connect with community. Each session combines guided movement, pop music, and a relaxed nightclub setting. There are no performance expectations and no prior dance experience required.

Do I need dance experience to come?

No. Dance Therapy is built specifically for people who do not consider themselves dancers. Every routine is taught step by step, at a pace that works for the whole room. You can move at your own pace, take breaks whenever you need to, and participate in whatever way feels comfortable for your body. Most people who come for the first time say the same thing: they were nervous before they arrived and glad they came once they did.

Is Dance Therapy queer-friendly?

Yes. Dance Therapy was created for LGBTQ+ adults and allies, and is held in the heart of Sydney's queer precinct on Oxford Street in Darlinghurst. The space is deliberately low-pressure and free from the dynamics that can make mainstream fitness or nightlife environments feel unwelcoming. Tribe Wellness was founded by Josh Feeney, a PACFA-registered psychotherapist and longstanding member of Sydney's queer community.

Where is Dance Therapy held in Sydney?

The venue is close to public transport, with bus stops on Oxford Street and a short walk from Museum Station. Sessions run every Thursday from 6:30pm to 8pm.

How much does Dance Therapy cost?
